Leicestershire Firefighters Walk 254km in Tribute to Colleague Today they walked from Melton to Oakham and Uppingham Fire Stations

The Leicestershire and Rutland Fire and Rescue Service family is undertaking an incredible act of endurance and solidarity this week, with personnel completing a grueling 254-kilometer walk in full fire kit to honor the memory of their colleague, Watch Manager Jon Partridge

.

The commemorative journey, which began on October 9th and concludes on October 18th, 2025, sees the firefighters visit all 20 fire stations across Leicestershire and Rutland. The demanding, ten-day route both starts and finishes at Billesdon Fire Station, where Watch Manager Partridge was based.

The epic walk is nearing its conclusion. Today, the team made their way through Rutland, stopping at Oakham Fire Station and Uppingham Fire Station. These stops provided a brief respite.

Tomorrow morning, the firefighters will leave Uppingham for the final leg of their journey, heading back to Billesdon. The sheer physical and mental fortitude required to complete such a distance, all while wearing the demanding, heavy fire kit, is a powerful testament to the participants' commitment.

Every taxing step taken during this monumental challenge is fueled by generosity, with all funds raised being split between two vital beneficiaries. This ensures the walk leaves a lasting legacy of support:
Harry Partridge: The funds will directly benefit Jon Partridge's son, providing support during this difficult time.

Donations can be made via the dedicated crowdfunding page: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/rememberingjonpartridge.

The Fire Fighters Charity: This organisation provides essential physical, mental, and social well-being support to the entire UK fire service community.

The journey is set to culminate this Saturday, October 18th 2025. The dedicated team is expected to arrive back at Billesdon Fire Station at approximately 2 pm.

Local residents are strongly encouraged to come out to the stations or the finish line to show their support and cheer on these brave participants as they complete the final kilometers of the 254km challenge.

This entire endeavor is more than a demanding physical feat; it is a heartfelt tribute that powerfully demonstrates the strong bond and commitment of the fire service family. The efforts of the Leicestershire and Rutland Fire and Rescue Service highlight their dedication both to honoring their fallen colleague and to supporting those who serve.
