Local Councillor Clears Path After Distressing Incident Involving Mobility Scooter User at Cutts Close Park, Oakham
An investigation and community response are underway following a distressing incident in Cutts Close Park, Oakham, yesterday evening (Thursday, 6th August) that has left local residents shocked.
Around 5:00 PM yesterday, a man using a mobility scooter entered Cutts Close Park and reportedly dropped a container of human ashes onto the ground. Following the incident, a confrontation occurred near the park's skatepark, with witnesses reporting that the man on the mobility scooter was assaulted by a teenager.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, with two police officers and a paramedic arriving to assist. Witnesses confirmed that while the man received medical evaluation at the scene, he was not transported to the hospital and was assaulted after the police had departed.
Residents living near the park contacted local Councillor Martin Brookes this morning (7th August) expressing concern that remnants of the ashes remained scattered on the public footpath.
Attempts by Cllr Brookes to reach the grounds maintenance team for immediate assistance were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered. Demonstrating prompt community care, Cllr Brookes personally attended the location and cleared the path using water.
Cllr Brookes is deeply concerned for the welfare of the man involved and is appealing to the Oakham community for information.
"I would like anyone who knows the man to contact me. I want to know if he is okay and if he would like any assistance retrieving the remainder of the ashes left at the edge of the path."
