Stapleford Miniature Railway Announces 2026 Open Weekend

Steam enthusiasts and families looking for a quintessential bank holiday outing have a date for their diaries. The Stapleford Miniature Railway (SMR) has officially announced its grand Open Weekend, taking place from August 29th to 31st, 2026.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Stapleford estate near Melton Mowbray, this three-day event promises more than just a train ride—it’s a full-scale celebration of vintage machinery and community spirit, all while supporting the vital work of LOROS Hospice.

The weekend is packed with attractions designed to appeal to all ages, from serious steam fans to families looking for a picnic spot with a view:

The star of the show is the railway itself, featuring 1/5th scale locomotives hauling passengers through the beautiful Leicestershire countryside.

Expect a sprawling display of classic cars, motorcycles, and stationary engines.

Traction engines and vintage tractors will be on-site, showcasing the power of historical engineering.

Browse a variety of trade stalls or relax at the licensed bar and catering facilities.

Dates: Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th, & Monday 31st August 2026

Opening Times: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm daily

Entry Prices

Adults: £6 / Children: £4 (Under 5s go FREE)

Train Rides: £4 (All classes)

For those who want to soak up the full atmosphere, weekend camping is available for £45. This is a popular option and must be booked in advance to secure a spot among the rolling hills and steam whistles.
