A powerful new photography exhibition highlighting the realities of forced displacement and the human connections behind supporting refugees is set to make its national debut in Rutland.
The Welcome photography exhibition will open its doors at the Oakham Quaker Meeting House on South Street (opposite Tesco) from Monday, 7th September to Saturday, 12th September 2026. Supported by the human rights charity Amnesty International UK’s Trade Union Network, the showcase aims to challenge political and media-driven narratives surrounding migrants and refugees by focusing on empathy, resilience, and shared humanity.

Location: Oakham Quaker Meeting House, South Street, Oakham, LE15 6HY (opposite Tesco)
Daily Hours: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily
Extended Hours: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Monday and Friday
Admission: Free (with refreshments available)
According to recent data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at least 117.8 million people globally are forcibly displaced due to persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations. This staggering statistic accounts for roughly 1 in 70 people worldwide, with approximately one-third seeking safety across international borders.
While displaced individuals are frequently met with systemic hostility and mistrust, the exhibition seeks to spotlight uplifting counter-narratives—reminding communities of the compassion and respect every human being deserves.
