A persistent offender who plagued local businesses across Leicestershire and Rutland has been hit with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following a series of aggressive retail thefts.
Patrick Doran, 29, of Burley Road, Langham, was recently sentenced to 16 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of theft. Despite a lengthy history of similar convictions, Patrick Doran continued his spree, often resorting to intimidation when confronted by employees.
The Restraints of the Order
At a hearing on Thursday, May 7, the court took decisive action to curb Doran’s impact on the local community. The newly issued CBO remains in effect for five years and carries strict prohibitions. Under the terms of the order, Patrick Doran is:
Prohibited from entering specific stores, he is legally banned from Morrisons Daily (Oakham), Co-op (Burley Road and Braunston Road, Oakham), BP (Oakham and Melton), Garden Village Café (Oakham), and Budgens (Uppingham).
He must not remain in any retail premises within Leicestershire and Rutland if asked to leave by a member of staff.
The move comes after years of disruption. According to Leicestershire police, Patrick Doran’s offending wasn’t limited to simple theft; he frequently used the threat of violence to bypass retail security and staff.
“Patrick Doran has been committing offences in the area for several years and despite previous convictions he has continued to offend,” said PC Shane Sanderson of the Melton and Rutland Neighbourhood Policing Area.
“When challenged by retail staff, Doran has made violent threats towards them. This behaviour is not acceptable.”
Local authorities are viewing the CBO as a vital tool to protect the livelihood of shopkeepers and the safety of the public. PC Sanderson emphasised that the order is a message to both the offender and the community that the courts will utilise every power available to stop repeat offenders.
How to Report a Breach The police are urging residents and business owners to remain vigilant. If Patrick Doran is seen entering any of the prohibited stores or refusing to leave a premises, the public is asked to contact 101 immediately.
This outcome serves as a significant victory for local businesses that have long dealt with Patrick Doran’s persistent and threatening behaviour.
