A New Voice for Oakham South: Professor Jonathan Nichols Joins Town Council

Cllr Jonathan Nichols
07807492789

Oakham Town Council has co-opted a new councillor for the Oakham South Ward: Professor Jonathan Nichols. With a distinguished background in space physics and a long-standing commitment to the community, Prof. Nichols brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and local knowledge to the council.

Professor Nichols is a university professor who specialises in space physics. His professional experience extends beyond academia, encompassing project and budget management, as well as working with young adults. This combination of skills is well-suited to the practical challenges of local government. His passion for science is evident in his public outreach, where he frequently gives talks on space and astronomy to schools and societies, inspiring the next generation.

Having lived in Oakham for 14 years, Prof. Nichols has a profound connection to the town and the wider Rutland area. He appreciates the unique qualities that make Oakham a special place to live and raise a family. At the same time, he is keenly aware of the challenges facing a small rural town, such as the need to maintain footfall for local businesses and manage constrained budgets. He hopes to apply his experience to these issues, bringing fresh ideas and innovative approaches to better serve the community.

Professor Nichols' appointment comes as the Oakham Town Council continues its search for additional members.

The council is actively seeking to co-opt more individuals who are passionate about contributing to the town's future.

The role of a councillor is a vital one, offering the chance to directly influence local decisions and help shape the community.

For those interested in serving, further information on the role and how to apply can be obtained from the Clerk to the Council at Oakham Town Council, Rol House, Long Row, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6LN.
