Rutland and Stamford Pride Fills Oakham with Colour and Community

Oakham's Market Place was a vibrant scene today as Rutland and Stamford Pride got underway, celebrating the region's LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The event, which has become a highlight on the local calendar, kicked off with a spirited Pride March.

The march, a powerful display of solidarity and visibility, started from Cutt's Close Park. Participants, adorned in rainbow colours, flags, and signs promoting love and acceptance, paraded through the town centre, culminating in the Market Place where the main festivities were to take place.

Demonstrating the event's broad support, the Chairman of Rutland County Council, Councillor Andrew Brown, was among those who joined the march. His presence underscored the council's support for the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of an inclusive county for all its residents.

The celebrations in the Market Place are set to continue throughout the day, featuring a diverse lineup of performers, food vendors, and a funfair, creating a festive atmosphere for people of all ages. This year's Pride event not only celebrates diversity but also highlights the strong sense of community and acceptance that defines Rutland.
