Meet Andrew Dinsmore Conservative candidate at the by-election in Rutland County Councils Barleythorpe Ward.
Biography
Andrew is a young barrister with direct experience as a former councillor. He lives locally in Rutland with his wife, young son and their two dogs. Following his being mugged three years ago, he ran a national petition that received 140,000 signatures and led to a ban of machete sales online. He is passionate about public service. He would love the opportunity to represent Barleythorpe on Rutland County Council and work closely with our communities and MP Alicia Kearns to help solve problems residents face. If elected, he intends to hold regular in person surgeries so that he can hear from residents and be their strong voice on the Council.
Key priorities:
Road construction, adoption and maintenance: Using his experience as a contract lawyer Andrew will work with residents to hold Alison Homes to account in completing road construction in the development following which he will work hard to ensure that they are adopted by the Council and properly maintained.
Flood defences: Andrew will push the Council to complete their seriously overdue Section 19 report on the flooding faced by residents over the last few years and push for them to take action and put in place preventative measures. He will also ensure Allison Homes takes action to better protect residents.
More for Our Youth: Following the Liberal Democrat’s broken promise on Catmose Sports Centre, Andrew wants to push the Council to provide better services and opportunities for young people. I will meet with our younger residents and support more opportunities in leisure, careers and beyond.
Local reorganisation: The Liberal Democrats are pushing Rutlanders into joining with Leicestershire without consulting residents. If Andrew is elected, he will work with colleagues in the Council to remove the Liberal Democrats from leading the administration, demand lower Council Tax in negotiations, and ensure residents get a say on our future.
The election will be held on 24th July 2025 and the results will be known the next day. All the candidates are: Andrew Dinsmore, Conservative; and Jonathan Nichols for the Liberal Democrats, Independent Andy Burton, Declan McCarthy Reform UK.
