The village of Seaton recently transformed into a bustling hub of creativity and community spirit as it hosted its very first Scarecrow Competition. Drawing in hundreds of visitors from near and far, the weekend event featured 30 imaginative straw creations scattered throughout the village.
At the end of the public vote, it was the nation’s favourite naturalist, Sir David Attenborough, who captured the hearts and the most votes of visitors, taking home the top honour.
The winning design was a true collaborative effort brought to life by the Moss family. Children Matthew and Alex spearheaded the project, with valuable help and craftsmanship from their parents, Emma and Andrew. Their winning tribute to Sir David stood out among a fierce field of competitors.
Competition for the top spot was remarkably close. Other fan-favorites capturing significant attention over the weekend included straw likenesses of Donald Trump and Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Beyond the fun and friendly rivalry, the event served a vital local cause. Money raised throughout the weekend will go directly toward the upkeep and maintenance of the Seaton Village Hall, ensuring the community space remains vibrant for years to come.
Given the overwhelming turnout and positive reception from residents and visitors alike, organisers have expressed high hopes of making the scarecrow competition an annual tradition in Seaton.
