A6003 in Rutland Remains Closed Following yesterdays car fire; Resurfacing Underway
Rutland – June 26, 2025 – The A6003 in Rutland continues to be closed to traffic today, following a car fire that occurred yesterday between Manton Top and the A47 roundabout at Uppingham. The incident, which resulted in significant fire damage to the road surface, has necessitated extensive repair work.
Contractors arrived on site just before midday today to begin the crucial task of resurfacing both sides of the carriageway. The burning car, caused substantial damage to the asphalt, making the road unsafe for use.
Leicestershire Police say they received reports of a car fire at 1.40pm and that no injuries were reported.
The incident was dealt with by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
A diversion was put in place via the A606, A1, A43 and A47. Motorists are advised to continue seeking alternative routes and to allow for extra travel time in the area.
Local authorities have not yet indicated when the A6003 is expected to reopen. Updates will be provided as the resurfacing work progresses and the road is deemed safe for vehicles once again. Residents and commuters are encouraged to check local traffic advisories for the latest information.
