Local Football Roundup: Leicester City, Peterborough, and More
Premier League:
Leicester City's struggles continued as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa. Despite a valiant effort, the Foxes were unable to secure a much-needed win.
League Two:
Peterborough United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the league, losing 2-0 to Wrexham. Former Posh striker Jack Marriott opened the scoring for the visitors.
FA Cup:
Daniels FC were knocked out of the first qualifying round of the FA Cup after a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Carlton Town. The winner came in the 92nd minute.
Peterborough and District Premier Division:
Uppingham Town celebrated a victory on the road, defeating Stanground Cardea Sports 1-0. Josh Sennett's goal proved to be the difference-maker. Other results saw Deeping United beat Moulton Harrox 2-0 and Wittering Premiair lose 2-1 to Leverington Sports.
United Counties Premier Division North:
Bourne Town made a triumphant return to league action with a resounding 5-0 home win over Shirebrook Town. At the bottom of the table, Deeping Rangers suffered a 4-0 defeat at Sleaford Town.
Division 1:
Blackstones' winning streak came to an end as they lost 2-1 away at Coalville Town. Cottesmore remain winless in the Everards Brewery Premier Division after a 2-0 defeat at Thurnby Rangers.
Women's Football:
In the East Midlands Women's Regional Football League - Premier Division, Stamford AFC went down 2-1 away at SJR Worksop. Emma Pollard scored the goal for Stamford. Oakham United also suffered a defeat, losing 4-2 to Thurmaston DPC in the Leicestershire Women's Division.
