The Victoria Hall, a cherished landmark in Oakham, is reaching a major milestone – its 125th anniversary!  However, like many other institutions, they're facing rising costs that threaten to keep their doors closed.

To ensure this historic venue continues to serve the community, they've launched a fundraising appeal with a goal of £50,000.

These funds are crucial for ongoing maintenance, improvements, and new amenities. The wish list includes new boilers for efficient heating, roof repairs to keep the building weatherproof, improved disability access to make the hall welcoming for everyone, a refurbished ballroom floor for grand events, and a fresh coat of paint to enhance the space.

Chairman of the Trustees, Tom Tyler, emphasises the importance of community support.  "The Victoria Hall relies heavily on volunteers, but operational costs are a constant challenge. As an independent charity, we have no guaranteed funding, so fundraising is vital to keep the doors open and make these necessary improvements.  This hall belongs to Oakham, and we want it to thrive for generations to come!"

Here's how you can contribute:

Donate: Visit the GoFundMe page set up by the charity: www.gofundme.com/support-the-victoria-hall Every contribution, big or small, is appreciated.

Join the Friends of Victoria Hall: Led by Lucy Slessor, a local champion for good causes, this dedicated volunteer group will organise fundraising events. Their first initiative is a delightful Vintage Tea Party on September 21st! Everyone in Oakham and Rutland is invited to attend and show their support. Look forward to more exciting events like a Halloween party and a talent competition in the lead-up to Christmas.

Tom Tyler expresses his gratitude: "We're thrilled to partner with Lucy and her team.  Together, we can expand our fundraising efforts and volunteer network.  We hope to see you at the Vintage Tea Party and future events!  Come celebrate the Victoria Hall, discover its potential, and contribute to its bright future!"

A little more about Victoria Hall

For over 125 years, the Victoria Hall has remained a vital part of the Oakham community. Managed by a board of voluntary trustees, the charity operates independently, receiving no regular financial support from local councils or third parties. Their income relies solely on event bookings, project-specific grants, and fundraising efforts.

The Victoria Hall offers a variety of spaces for hire, catering to a wide range of events and activities. The main hall upstairs can accommodate up to 270 people standing or 180 seated, making it ideal for conferences, concerts, and large gatherings. Additionally, there's a meeting room available for smaller meetings or workshops, retail and office space to rent on the ground floor, and the art gallery, which can be booked for exhibitions.
