Fatal Oakham Collision Police Issue Urgent Appeal After Pedestrian Sadly Dies

Leicestershire Police confirmed late last night that the victim, a woman in her sixties, passed away in the hospital on Friday, March 27. She had been fighting for her life since the incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 25.

Emergency services were called to the High Street, near the junction with Church Street, at approximately 1:55 PM last Wednesday.

The collision involved a white Ford Transit van, which was traveling toward Catmose Street, and the female pedestrian. While the driver of the van was reported to be uninjured, the woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed for urgent medical treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.

Officers from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) have now escalated their inquiries and are making a renewed plea for public assistance to piece together the moments leading up to the tragedy.

Investigators are specifically interested in anyone who saw the collision or observed the movements of the pedestrian or the white Ford Transit van prior to 1:55 PM.

Motorists with dash cam footage or local business owners and residents with CCTV that may have captured the incident or the vehicle’s route.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the collision or the circumstances leading up to it to please get in touch," a spokesperson for the SCIU stated.

If you have any information that could assist the investigation, you are urged to contact the police immediately.
