Andrew Dinsmore has been elected to Rutland County Council for Barleythorpe Ward.


Andrew Dinsmore of the Conservative Party has been elected as the newest representative for the Barleythorpe ward on Rutland County Council, following a by-election held on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Andrew Dinsmore secured 209 of the 584 ballots cast, representing 35% of the total vote. 

The turnout for the election was 29.7%.

The full results of the Barleythorpe election are as follows:

Andrew Dinsmore (Conservative Party) - 209 votes - ELECTED

Jonathan Nichols (Liberal Democrat) - 136 votes

Declan McCarthy (Reform UK) - 123 votes

Andy Burton (Independent) - 114 votes

Mr. Dinsmore will now join the council, representing the interests of the Barleythorpe residents. His election marks a significant moment for the Conservative Party in the area, as they gain a new seat on the local authority. It is also the first by-election won by the Conservative Party since 2019.
