Get ready to polish your dancing shoes and sharpen your countryside knowledge. The charming village of Lyndon is once again preparing to host its highly anticipated Summer Fete, and this year promises to be another unmissable event filled with glamour, tradition, and community spirit.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, 2nd August 2026, when the village will come alive with a star-studded lineup and a classic British fete atmosphere.

The event will be officially opened by none other than Strictly Come Dancing legend Craig Revel Horwood. Craig isn't just there to cut the ribbon; he will be bringing his signature flair to the judging panel for the "Out-Rage-Ous Outfit" competition. Attendees are encouraged to go all-out-the more flamboyant and creative your ensemble, the better your chances of impressing the judge.

Adding a touch of rustic expertise to the day, charismatic hedgelayer and best-selling author Richard Negus returns to Lyndon. Following his sensational, "sell-out" success at the recent Nevill Holt Festival with his Words from the Hedge event, Richard will be sharing his passion for the English countryside.

While the day is designed to be a "fab-u-lous" experience, it is also rooted in community support. All proceeds and donations from the fete will go directly to the Leicestershire and Rutland Branch of The MND Association (Charity No. 294354) and St Martin’s Church, Lyndon.

Mark your calendars for a May Bank Holiday weekend unlike any other. 

On Sunday, May 3 and Monday, May 4, 2026, the picturesque village of Uffington transforms into a vibrant gallery of straw and creativity for its annual Scarecrow Festival.

This year’s event carries a special significance as the village unites under the theme "Our Planet & the Natural World". The festival is dedicated to celebrating the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, honoring his century of dedication to wildlife conservation.

Festival Essentials

Dates: Sunday, May 3 – Monday, May 4, 2026.

Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (16:00).

Venue: Uffington Road Playing Fields, Stamford (PE9 2EX).

Admission: Still just £5 per car, which includes parking and a festival Quiz Sheet. For those arriving on foot, Quiz Sheets are available for £2.50.

The festival offers a quintessential British village experience, drawing over 5,000 visitors each year with its blend of creative displays and family activities.

The heart of the festival is the Scarecrow Quiz Trail. Residents and local groups create intricate displays reflecting the natural world theme, often featuring creative tributes to Sir David Attenborough himself. Visitors can wander the village to identify hidden clues and crack the quiz.

Keep your eyes on the skies for a scheduled Flypast, a perennial highlight of the weekend. Back on solid ground, visitors can enjoy:

A Miniature Steam Train and Model Railway.

Farm Machinery displays and a Classic Car show.

A Ride-on Mini Fire Engine and potentially a real fire engine, emergencies permitting.

On Sunday, the popular Dog Show takes center stage, typically starting at 1:00 PM with classes such as "Dog & Owner Lookalike". Throughout the weekend, visitors can also meet friendly Alpacas or try their hand at the legendary local pastime of Welly Wanging.

Despite the blustery conditions brought by Storm Bert, many enthusiastic shoppers ventured out today to attend the Oakham Christmas Craft and Gift Fair, held at the historic Victoria Hall. The event, which showcased a wide range of handcrafted items and unique gifts, proved to be a popular draw for local residents and visitors alike.

From intricate jewellery to cosy knitted scarves, the fair offered something for everyone. Talented artisans displayed their wares, sharing their passion and creativity with attendees. Whether you were seeking a special Christmas gift or simply indulging in some festive browsing, there was plenty to discover.
