Rutland County Museum, Oakham, Launches Expanded Summer Programme

Rutland County Museum Launches Expanded Summer Programme

Rutland County Museum in Oakham is set to become a go-to destination for families this summer, with an exciting and expanded program of activities and attractions designed to entertain and educate visitors of all ages. The Museum, located in the heart of Rutland, is rolling out a series of new initiatives alongside its popular arts and crafts sessions to provide a memorable and engaging holiday experience.

Leading the charge of new attractions is a stunning 3D replica of the renowned Rutland Roman Mosaic, brought to life by the internationally acclaimed street artist, Julian Beever. Known for his captivating and mind-bending chalk art, Julian Beever has created a piece that promises to transport visitors back to Roman times, offering a unique and interactive photo opportunity that blends ancient history with modern artistry.

The museum is also embracing cutting-edge technology with the introduction of a new virtual reality (VR) headset experience. This innovative attraction allows users to interact with a digital Rutland Sea Dragon, giving them a glimpse into the prehistoric world of this iconic local fossil. The VR experience is designed to be both educational and thrilling, making history accessible and exciting for a new generation of museum-goers.

To accommodate the anticipated increase in visitors and ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy the new attractions, Rutland County Council has extended the Museum's opening hours. Throughout August, the museum will be open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, a significant increase from its usual four-day schedule. This change aims to provide greater flexibility for families planning their summer outings.

Despite these exciting additions and extended hours, entry to the Rutland County Museum remains completely free for children and adults alike. This commitment to free entry ensures that these new and enriching experiences are accessible to everyone in the community and beyond.

Rutland County Museum invites everyone to explore its new summer offerings and discover the rich history of the area in a fun and engaging way. Whether you're an art lover, a history buff, or a technology enthusiast, there's something new for you to experience this summer at the Rutland County Museum.
