Remembering the Fallen: Rutland Honours Its Heroes

Rutland, a county with deep-rooted connections to the Armed Forces, is gearing up to commemorate Remembrance Day with a series of poignant events. From Friday, November 8th, to Monday, November 11th, the county will pay tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives in service to their nation.


Festival of Remembrance

On Friday, November 8th, the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr. Sarah Furness, will host the third annual Festival of Remembrance at Rutland Hall Hotel. The evening will feature performances by the Cottesmore Military Wives Choir, the LNR ACF Corps of Drums, the Uppingham School Pipe Band, and students from Rutland's secondary schools.

Music for Remembrance

All Saints' Church in Oakham will host a special musical performance featuring award-winning soprano Katie Marshall and the Rutland Concert Band. The concert will highlight the theme of remembrance, with all proceeds benefiting the Poppy Appeal.



County Service of Remembrance and Parade

On Sunday, November 10th, at 2:30 PM, a solemn parade will march from Oakham Castle to All Saints' Church. The service will feature wreath-laying ceremonies and tributes to the fallen.

As Rutland honours its heroes, the community is invited to participate in these events and pay their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.


Music for Remembrance Uppingham School

On Sunday10 Nov 2024 at 19:00 Uppingham's choirs lead an evening of reflection and remembrance, featuring music and readings, in the stunning surroundings of the School Chapel.

Armistice Day Service

On Monday, November 11th, at 10:45 AM, a solemn service will be held in Oakham Castle Grounds to mark the Armistice. Led by the Venerable John Ellis CB, former Chaplain-in-Chief to the Royal Air Force, the service will be attended by military personnel, veterans, and community members. A minute's silence will be observed at 11 AM.
