Oakham Prepares to Sparkle at the Annual Christmas Lights Switch On!
The festive season officially begins in Rutland this Sunday as the Oakham Christmas Lights Switch On event returns to illuminate the town centre! Organised by Oakham Town Council, this highly anticipated afternoon promises fun for all the family, culminating in the dazzling moment the town's lights flicker to life.

From noon onwards, Oakham Town Centre will be buzzing with activity across the High Street, Market Place, and Mill Street. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can enjoy:
Market & Rides: Browse a range of exciting craft and food stalls for early Christmas shopping, and enjoy the thrills of the fairground rides.
Live Broadcast: Tune in to the festive soundtrack provided by Rutland & Stamford Sound, broadcasting live from the event.
Spectacular Street Performers: Don't miss the thrilling schedule of live acts:
Fire Performer: 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM
Stiltwalker: 1:30 PM, 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM
Special Guests Arrive in the Afternoon
The excitement ramps up as the afternoon progresses with a line-up of festive favourites and celebrity guests:
Santa's Visit: Get ready for Father Christmas! Santa with the Rutland Lions will be greeting visitors from 3:00 PM onwards.
Filbert The Fox: Joining the celebrations from 3:30 PM is Filbert the Fox, the popular official mascot of Leicester City Football Club, who is sure to bring plenty of cheer.
Choir Performance: Soak up the true Christmas spirit with a performance from the Sing Out Rutland choir at 4:00 PM.
The Big Moment: Switch On at 4:30 PM
The grand finale will take place at 4:30 PM! The town's lights will be switched on by Filbert The Fox and a special child who has won the chance through the Oakham Town Council’s Key Stage 1 and 2 drawing competition. This magical moment officially launches the Christmas season in Oakham.
