Uppingham's Historic Christmas Fatstock Show
The Uppingham Christmas Fatstock Show, is set to captivate audiences once again on Wednesday, November 27th, 2024. This unique event, held in the heart of Uppingham's historic Market Place, showcases a variety of livestock, including cattle, sheep, and pigs.
This annual spectacle is a testament to the town's rich agricultural heritage. Despite facing interruptions due to world wars and disease outbreaks, the show has persevered, making it one of the longest-running events of its kind in the country. The temporary pens erected in the Market Place transform the space into a bustling hub of livestock activity.
The day kicks off early, with livestock arriving from 7:00 AM. Judging commences around 10:00 AM, followed by the presentation of prizes at 11:30 AM. The show culminates in a public auction of pigs and sheep at noon.
The Uppingham Christmas Fatstock Show is more than just a competition; it's a community event that brings together farmers, livestock enthusiasts, and locals alike. The event's unique setting and historic significance make it a must-see for anyone interested in agricultural heritage and local traditions.
