Free Christmas Shopper Buses to Make a Return this December
Rutland County Council is once again offering free return bus travel to two popular shopping destinations in December, just in time for the festive season.
The free Christmas Shopper Buses will depart from various locations in Rutland, including Langham, Barleythorpe, Oakham, Gunthorpe, Preston, and Uppingham, and travel to Nottingham and Peterborough.
This initiative is part of the government's Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) and is funded by a national grant. The aim is to encourage the use of public transport and to provide an accessible and convenient option for residents to reach shopping destinations without the hassle of driving and parking.
Key Dates:
Saturday, 7th December: Nottingham
Saturday, 14th December: Peterborough
Councillor Christine Wise, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Transport, and the Environment, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "These one-off journeys are designed to provide an accessible public transport option to popular shopping destinations in the lead-up to Christmas. We hope this will encourage more people to choose public transport over private cars, especially during busy shopping periods."
In addition to the free bus travel, Rutland County Council, in collaboration with the Town Councils, is offering free parking on Saturdays in December and during Christmas Late Night Shopping events in Oakham and Uppingham.
By combining free bus travel and free parking, the Council aims to make Christmas shopping more convenient and environmentally friendly for residents.
