The Heartland Returns Why the 2026 Rutland County Show is Unmissable

The Heartland Returns Why the 2026 Rutland County Show is Unmissable

There is a specific kind of magic that settles over the Rutland Showground come late May. It’s in the low lowing of the prize cattle, the scent of fresh-cut grass, and that unmistakable buzz of a community coming together to celebrate its roots. As a local who has spent years capturing the spirit of our county through a lens, I can tell you the Rutland County Show isn't just an event; it’s the heartbeat of Rutland.

This year, on Sunday, 31st May 2026, the 191st edition of the show returns to Oakham, promising a day that bridges our rich agricultural heritage with the vibrant, modern energy of Rutland life.

The Main Ring remains the undisputed star of the show. Whether you’re there for the high-octane thrills of the stunt teams or the rhythmic elegance of the scurry driving, there’s a timelessness to it all. For those who prefer the "heavy lifters," the Shire horses are always a personal highlight majestic reminders of the power that once worked these fields.

From the finest sheep and cattle to British Showjumping, the competitive spirit is as fierce as ever.

The food hall is a dangerous place for the hungry, an array of artisan producers that make "shopping local" an absolute treat.

With animal encounters, traditional funfairs, and rural craft demonstrations, it’s the ultimate day out for the kids and the young at heart.

One of the most heartening sights every year is the “For Rutland” Grand Bottle Tombola. It’s a local institution that raises vital funds for Citizens Advice Rutland, supporting those living with long-term health conditions. It’s a reminder that while we’re here to have fun, we’re also here for each other.

The gates open at 9:00 AM, and I highly recommend getting there early to beat the rush.

Parking: Free on-site parking is available, including dedicated disabled bays.

Shuttle Bus: If you’re coming from Oakham or Uppingham, keep an eye out for the free shuttle service it’s the stress-free way to travel.

Dogs: Well-behaved four-legged friends are welcome on non-retractable leads.

As always, the early bird catches the worm and the discount.

While gate prices are £20 for adults and £5 for children, you can save significantly by booking online in advance.

Whether you're a lifelong resident or a first-time visitor, there is no better way to spend a May Sunday. I'll see you there, I'll be the one of many with the camera, trying to catch that perfect Rutland sun.
