Join Oakham Town Council Meeting on February 12, 2025

Join Oakham Town Council Meeting on February 12, 2025!

The community are invited to attend the upcoming Oakham Town Council meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Town Council Offices at Rol House, Long Row, Oakham, LE15 6LN.

This is a great opportunity for residents to engage with their local town council and stay informed about important issues in our town.

One exciting item on the agenda is the potential co-option of  Evie Tempest, a local resident and business owner, into the council. Her insights and experiences as a business owner could bring fresh perspectives to our discussions and help strengthen the connection between the council and the local business community.

The council will also be considering a quote for a deep clean of the town centre, proposed at £9,296.80. Since this is the only quote received for the job, it raises important questions about how the council can ensure the best outcomes through their procurement processes.

Additionally, they will revisit the Church Street toilet renovation, which has generated some discussion in the past. There have been concerns regarding procurement laws.

They will also talk about our future plans regarding Victoria Hall, including discussions with the trustees about maintaining the building.

There is also a possibility of moving the Oakham Town Council offices back to Victoria Hall.

Another important item on the agenda is a quotation for replacing the roundabout at Cutts Close Play Area, estimated at £18,204.00. The members once again only have one quotation to consider. The roundabout certainly needs replacing, the defects have been flagged during many annual inspections.

This meeting is open to everyone, and you are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts or ask questions during the designated time for community input.

Oakham Town Council has announced an Extraordinary Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 6:30 pm.the budget for the financial year 2025-2026, The proposed budget reflects a 4.8 percent increase

Oakham Town Council has announced an Extraordinary Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 6:30 pm.

The primary agenda item for this meeting will be the discussion and approval of the budget for the financial year 2025-2026.

In a recent meeting, the finance committee reviewed the town’s financial needs and proposed a budget of £293,794 for the upcoming year. This proposed budget reflects a 4.8 percent increase compared to last year’s precept, which is the amount of council tax that residents will be expected to contribute.

This increase is indicative of the council's commitment to maintaining and improving local services as well as ensuring that community needs are met amidst rising costs and inflationary pressures.

Council members encourage residents to attend the meeting, as public input is vital in shaping the priorities for the town.

Feedback from community members will be crucial in the decision-making process, as the council aims to strike a balance between providing services and managing taxpayer contributions effectively.

The approval of the budget will not only set the financial direction for Oakham for the next year but will also have an impact on residents' council tax bills.

The proposed increase is aimed at tackling ongoing challenges and investing in future developments that benefit the community as a whole.

Residents are encouraged to make their voices heard and participate in this important civic engagement opportunity.

The proposed draft budget should appear here soon.
