Uppingham's Festive Magic: Late Night Shopping is today December 4th, 2025

The picturesque market town of Uppingham is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland tonight as the annual Christmas in Uppingham Late Night Festive Shopping event officially kicks off the holiday season.

Taking place today, Thursday, December 4th, 2025, the event promises an evening filled with festive cheer, family fun, and, of course, a fantastic opportunity to start your Christmas gift buying, supporting the town's wonderful array of independent retailers.

The celebrations are scheduled to run from 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM, centred around Market Square and High Street East. This magical evening is a true testament to Uppingham’s vibrant community spirit, brought to life by dedicated volunteers and local businesses.

Key Highlights for the Evening:

Christmas Lights Switch-On: The festivities will begin with the highlight of the evening: the official Christmas lights switch-on at 5:30 PM. This year, the honour of flicking the switch will be performed by a very special and distinguished local guest, Matt Hampson OBE. The switch-on will be immediately followed by a performance from the local primary school's choir.

Late Night Retail Therapy: Many of Uppingham's shops, known for their unique and high-quality offerings, will keep their doors open late. Shoppers can explore a fantastic selection of gifts, decorations, and treats in a welcoming and festive atmosphere.

Festive Markets & Food: The Market Square and High Street will be bustling with a variety of food stalls and craft vendors. Guests can enjoy tempting seasonal treats and find unique, handmade gifts at the Craft stalls in the Town Hall, High Street, and Parish Church.

Entertainment Galore: The air will be filled with music and merriment, featuring:

Performances by a choir of carollers, a 40's jazz singer, and a Brass Band in the Market Place, High Street, and Parish Church.

Mischievous Wandering Elves Entertainers roaming the streets.

The traditional Rutland Morris dancing outside The Crown Hotel.

It’s not just about shopping—the event is designed for all ages, offering plenty of activities to delight children and families:

Santa's Grotto: Children can visit Santa in his grotto and enjoy activities hosted in the Parish Church for a small charge (£3.50 per visitor).

Free Attractions: Enjoy a ride on the Children's Victorian Carousel in the Market Place and step inside the enchanting Snow Globe (outside the Town Hall) for a perfect winter photo opportunity—both are free to enjoy!

Story Time: Mrs. Claus will be hosting a free Storytime session, IVY'S Magical Christmas Eve, in the Parish Church Hall. 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm.
