Oakham Town Council has announced an Extraordinary Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 6:30 pm.

The primary agenda item for this meeting will be the discussion and approval of the budget for the financial year 2025-2026.

In a recent meeting, the finance committee reviewed the town’s financial needs and proposed a budget of £293,794 for the upcoming year. This proposed budget reflects a 4.8 percent increase compared to last year’s precept, which is the amount of council tax that residents will be expected to contribute.

This increase is indicative of the council's commitment to maintaining and improving local services as well as ensuring that community needs are met amidst rising costs and inflationary pressures.

Council members encourage residents to attend the meeting, as public input is vital in shaping the priorities for the town.

Feedback from community members will be crucial in the decision-making process, as the council aims to strike a balance between providing services and managing taxpayer contributions effectively.

The approval of the budget will not only set the financial direction for Oakham for the next year but will also have an impact on residents' council tax bills.

The proposed increase is aimed at tackling ongoing challenges and investing in future developments that benefit the community as a whole.

Residents are encouraged to make their voices heard and participate in this important civic engagement opportunity.

The proposed draft budget should appear here soon.
