Supporting Rutland’s Unpaid Carers What’s On for Carers Week 2026, June 8th – June 14th

Carers Week is a crucial annual campaign led by Carers UK, dedicated to recognising and celebrating the massive contribution made by the UK's estimated 5.8 million unpaid carers. These are the individuals who look after family members, friends, or neighbours who need extra help due to illness, disability, a mental health condition, or an addiction.

Here in Rutland, England’s smallest county, our community of local carers plays an invaluable role. To show our gratitude, bring people together, and highlight the vital support networks available locally, a comprehensive program of events and activities has been organized throughout June 2026.

Whether you are looking for expert advice, a casual coffee with peers who understand your journey, or an opportunity to help shape future council services, there is something for everyone.

Carers Week Events (June 8th – June 14th)

The core week features localized hubs for expert face-to-face support, online specialized groups, and relaxed social meetups.

Uppingham Carers Group

This event takes place on Monday 8 June from 1:30pm to 4:00pm at Uppingham Town Hall. It is a comprehensive drop-in session providing support and information for all carers. Representatives from the Rutland County Council Carers Team, Age UK Leicestershire & Rutland, and Admiral Nurses (dementia specialist nurses) will be on-hand. No booking is required. For more details, you can email carersteam@rutland.gov.uk.

ADHD Gold Support Group (Online)

This digital session runs on Wednesday 10 June from 7:00pm to 8:30pm via Zoom. Ideal for those balancing daytime commitments, you can find out more details on the Rutland Council ADHD Gold Directory or visit the official ADHD Gold service page. They offer a variety of support options specifically tailored to parents and carers of children and young people navigating life with ADHD.

Coffee and Catch Up

Scheduled for Friday 12 June from 9:00am to 11:00am, this meetup is located at the Captain Noel Newton (Wetherspoon) in Oakham. Run by the team at the Rutland Parent Carer Voice website, this informal morning session is all about a friendly chat and a warm drink with fellow carers. It is a great space to swap stories, share experiences, and unwind.

Continuing Support: Post-Carers Week Events

Caring doesn't stop when Carers Week ends, and neither does Rutland's outreach. A series of follow-up events are scheduled throughout the rest of June to keep the momentum going.

Tesco Information Event

Pop by on Wednesday 17 June between 9:00am and 2:00pm at the Tesco Store in Oakham. This is a convenient, drop-in setup during your normal food shop where you can come along to meet several amazing local charities and support groups dedicated to assisting carers of all backgrounds.

Know More, Live Well Event

Taking place on Thursday 18 June from 11:00am to 1:00pm, this session is hosted at the Greetham Community Centre. It is a health initiative aimed at promoting personal wellness through structured awareness, prevention advice, and positive lifestyle changes.

Carers Conversation

This feedback meeting is set for Friday 19 June from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Rutland County Council Offices in Oakham. These sessions allow all carers to have their voices heard and help directly shape, support, and critique the council's ongoing care strategies. For further information, you can email carersteam@rutland.gov.uk.

Carers Delivery Group

Meeting on Wednesday 24 June from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Rutland County Council Offices in Oakham, this group works hand-in-hand with the Carers Conversations. These collaborative sessions bridge the gap between carer feedback and official action, ensuring everyone works together to achieve priority targets. For details, contact carersteam@rutland.gov.uk.

The Big Carers Lunch

The grand finale to the month starts at 3:00pm on Tuesday 30 June at the Land’s End Restaurant in Oakham. Sponsored by Land’s End, organized by Voluntary Action Rutland, and supported by the local Carers Team, all carers and their loved ones are invited for a completely free lunch. It includes light activities and a fantastic chance to build lasting friendships. Prior contact is highly recommended, so please email enquiries@varutland.org.uk to secure your spot.

A Note on Accessibility: Most local events listed above are completely free drop-ins designed around your busy schedules. If you are unsure about transport, access, or need specific advice before turning up, please reach out to the dedicated council team at carersteam@rutland.gov.uk.
