Oakham School, a powerhouse of UK school sport, has launched a search for an enthusiastic Visiting Hockey Coach to join its elite sports department. The role, set to begin in September 2026, offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated coach to influence one of the most successful hockey programs in the country.
The school is seeking a candidate with a Level 1 coaching qualification (or equivalent) and a proven track record of working with young athletes. With a focus on player development and high-level performance, the successful applicant will be integrated into a coaching staff that manages over 75 teams across both girls' and boys' divisions.
Oakham School is widely regarded as a top-tier destination for hockey. The school’s recent record speaks for itself, with the 1st XI Boys and Girls consistently reaching the final stages of the Tier 1 National Cup. In the most recent term alone, the 2nd XI Boys finished as the top-ranked team in the country, while individual standout stars like Lucy C. and Alexa B-E. have earned international call-ups and captaincy roles at major clubs like Beeston.
The school’s alumni network includes Olympic legends like Crista Cullen, proving that the coaching provided here is a legitimate springboard to the international stage.
The position is a fixed-term, one-year contract (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027) with variable hours up to 20 hours per week. Beyond the competitive hourly rate of £24.80, the role comes with a suite of professional perks:
