The Future of Rutland: Public Meeting Called by MP Alicia Kearns – Book Your Seat Now

Rutland residents are urged to share their opinions on significant changes proposed by the Government regarding local governance. Alicia Kearns, the Member of Parliament for Rutland, will be holding a crucial public meeting to discuss the implications of plans to abolish district councils and introduce large unitary councils that could serve populations of up to 500,000.

This proposed shift raises serious concerns about the future of Rutland as an independent county council. Kearns is keen to ensure that locals are fully informed about what these proposals entail, the potential consequences for the region, and the responses from various stakeholders regarding the required re-organisations.

The public meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 27th, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Victoria Hall in Oakham. This gathering aims not only to outline the Government's plans but also to facilitate an open dialogue where Rutlanders can voice their opinions and concerns. This is especially important given that the community has not been consulted on these major changes.

Kearns emphasises the need for an informed and engaged public as the potential re-organisation could have lasting impacts on the county. "It is essential we discuss this together," she stated. "I want to ensure that everyone understands the process and feels empowered to contribute their views."

In addition to the Oakham meeting, Kearns has plans to hold a separate meeting with residents of Harborough. For Stamford, the situation is more complex due to ongoing developments with the mayoralty, but Kearns pledges to provide updates as more information becomes available.

As this is a pivotal moment for Rutland and its governance, residents are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting and participate in this vital conversation.
