A New Deputy for the Smallest County Tom Mumby Commissioned at Oakham Castle


History and tradition converged this week at the historic Oakham Castle as Tom Mumby was officially commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Rutland.

The ceremony, presided over by the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, took place against the iconic backdrop of the castle’s Great Hall, famous for its unique collection of ceremonial horseshoes.

The Lord-Lieutenant shared the news via social media, highlighting the significance of the location. Oakham Castle is recognised as the oldest extant court in the land, making it a fitting site for the formal presentation of a Royal commission.

"Tom will be a great addition to my team of Deputies," the Lord-Lieutenant noted, welcoming the new appointee to the lieutenancy team.

In his new capacity, Tom Mumby will support the Lord-Lieutenant in her duties as the British Monarch's personal representative in the county. Key responsibilities typically include, sssisting with Royal visits to the region. Representing the Lieutenancy at local community events. Promoting the voluntary sector and local businesses. Supporting the honors system by identifying worthy local candidates.

Tom is know for organising the The Rutland Flower Show and The Rutland Car boot Sale.
