Major Gas Leak and Main Barleythorpe Road Closure Causes Traffic Chaos on First Day of Rutland Flower Show
The first day of the Rutland Flower Show has been met with significant traffic disruption, as a major gas leak has forced the closure of an emergency road closure in Barleythorpe, on Main Road after the Grooms Close junction. This is for Cadent Gas to carry out gas pipe repairs.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday 13th, has led to the complete closure of Main Barleythorpe Road, a key route for show attendees and local residents alike.
The closure, coinciding with the opening day of one of the county's first Flower Show, has caused widespread traffic chaos. Drivers are being diverted onto smaller, alternative routes, which are struggling to cope with the increased volume of vehicles. Long queues and significant delays have been reported in and around the area.
Rutland County Council is expecting the reopening of the road 11.59pm this evening. In the meantime, motorists are urged to follow diversion signs and remain patient.
