Pudding the Pig Makes History with Ground-breaking Surgery at Catmose Vets Oakham Rutland

Pudding the Pig recently underwent a ground-breaking surgical procedure at Catmose Vets, making history as the first Kunekune pig to undergo a rostral mandibulectomy. This complex surgery involved removing a portion of his jawbone to treat a rare bone tumour.

"This type of tumor is incredibly rare in pigs, and has never encountered it in a Kunekune before," said a spokesperson for Catmose Vets. "We wanted to give Pudding the best possible chance, so we reached out to specialists Gerhard Putter (dentistry and maxilofacial surgery) and Sarah Pellett (exotics specialist). They both graciously agreed to travel to Oakham to assist with the surgery."

The surgery was a delicate and challenging procedure, requiring the removal of the front portion of Pudding's jawbone followed by a meticulous reconstruction. Despite the complexity, Pudding recovered remarkably well. "He was a happy pig the next morning, eating well and making happy grunts," the spokesperson shared. "He even found the time to send the vets a lovely thank you card!"

This extraordinary case highlights Catmose Vets' commitment to providing the highest quality care for all animals. "Whenever someone reaches out to us with a problem about their pet, we do everything we can to help," the spokesperson emphasised. "We discuss possible outcomes openly and honestly, and we never recommend treatments that are unnecessary or detrimental to the animal's well-being. Our goal is always to work with our clients to give their pets the best possible chance in life."

Pudding's successful surgery is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the team at Catmose Vets. Their commitment to providing exceptional care for all animals, regardless of species, makes them a valuable asset to the local community.
