Oakham Canal Path Closure: Temporary Disruption for a Lasting Improvement

A brief closure of the footpath along the Oakham Canal is imminent. The Rutland County Council Highways Department will be undertaking essential repairs to the Spillway, located two fields north of the bypass where the path crosses. This work aims to mitigate flooding issues that have plagued the area during winter months.

The closure is scheduled to begin in mid-November and is expected to last for approximately two days. While the official notice will indicate a six-month closure period, this is a standard measure to accommodate potential delays in the work.

Rest assured, the path will only be closed for the duration of the repairs. Once completed, the upgraded Spillway will significantly enhance the safety and usability of the footpath.
