Oakham High Street Crossing Incident, Safety Concerns

Oakham High Street Crossing Incident, Safety Concerns

A traffic incident occurred on Oakham High Street this morning when a white Volkswagen vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing light. Rutland County Council highways department are taking action to ensure safety.

The highways department is currently working to secure the scene and is awaiting the arrival of the National Grid to disconnect the power supply. As a result, pedestrians and motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when approaching or using the crossing.

One particular concern is the remaining signal light, which is automatically changing colours without interruption. This has led to a situation where some motorists are failing to notice the red light on the opposite side of the road, potentially endangering pedestrians attempting to cross.

It is essential that both pedestrians and motorists remain vigilant and adhere to all traffic signals and signs in the area until the situation is fully resolved.
