Dive into Summer Fun: Rutland Water Beach Now Open!
The sun is shining, and the inviting waters of Rutland Water Beach, located on the North Shore, are officially open for the 2025 summer season! Pack your picnic baskets, grab your buckets and spades, and prepare for a fantastic day out at England's first inland bathing water location to boast the prestigious Seaside Award.
Rutland Water Beach offers an impressive 140 metres of sandy shoreline and a sprawling 2,800m² area designated for paddling and swimming, providing ample space for everyone to cool off and enjoy the water.
Season Opening Times and Safety Information:
The beach operates seasonally, with specific opening hours for 2025. Currently, from June 30th to July 18th, the beach is open from 12 PM to 5 PM on weekdays and 10 AM to 5 PM on weekends. During the peak summer holidays, from July 19th to August 31st, hours extend to 10 AM to 6 PM daily. Please note that the beach will then be closed on Mondays from September 1st, and will close for the season on Monday, September 25th. It is crucial to stay out of the water outside the designated opening periods for your safety.
A Mark of Excellence: Blue Flag and Seaside Award
Rutland Water is incredibly proud that Sykes Lane is the first inland bathing water location in England to be awarded both the Blue Flag and Seaside Award. These accolades are a testament to the excellent water quality, the rich biodiversity of the surrounding green space, and the dedication to providing a high-quality recreational area for the community.
Planning Your Visit During Peak Times (LE15 8QL):
The Beach at Sykes Lane is one of Rutland Water's most popular attractions, and it can get exceptionally busy on hot days. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, visitors can expect increased operational measures during peak usage. This includes:
Increased staff presence
More toilet and first aid facilities
Dedicated car park stewards
Activation of overflow car park areas, which are a short walk from the beach. When Overflow is in use, expect a 10-15 minute walk to the beach, and only Blue Badge holders will be allowed access to the main car park areas.
To help your day run smoothly, please listen to the directions of stewards and lifeguards, who are there to assist with safety and operations. Remember to raise all BBQs off the grass and swim only in designated lifeguard areas. Always keep a close eye on your children, as it's easy for them to become separated in a crowd.
Important Notes for Visitors:
Everyone is welcome at Rutland Water Beach, except dogs. However, there are plenty of other dog-friendly locations around Rutland Water for your canine companions to enjoy!
Your safety is paramount. Trained lifeguards are on watch throughout the season, and wind speed, direction, and water temperature are regularly monitored. Visitors are urged to pay close attention to all safety signage posted around the beach, including information on what the different flags mean.
Car Parking is charged on entry per car, so please have your payment ready to ensure a quick entry. Annual permit holders can enter without additional charges by having their permit ready.
