Eligibility: The scheme applies to properties that serve as the primary residence. Empty homes, second homes, and holiday lets are not eligible.

Council Addresses Flooding Challenges

In response to the severe flooding, the Council acknowledged the significant impact on the community.

The Council highlighted the unprecedented rainfall in January, exceeding expected levels and exacerbating the flooding situation.

While lobbying the Government for funding support, the Council recognised the limitations in securing government assistance.

To assist residents, the Council implemented the Local Flood Relief scheme as a permanent measure within its Flood Risk Management Strategy.

The Council emphasised its commitment to addressing flood risks within Rutland:

Section 19 Investigations: Ongoing investigations into the causes of flooding are being conducted, with the recent appointment of a dedicated Flood Officer to expedite the process.

Drainage Maintenance: The Council has actively inspected and cleared over 4,000 drains and gullies to improve drainage infrastructure.

Strategy Review: A comprehensive review of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy will be completed by the Spring.

Councillor Wise expressed her concern for affected residents and acknowledged the devastation caused by the flooding. She thanked residents, emergency services, council staff, and volunteers for their tireless efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
