Oakham's Christmas Light Switch-On Competition: Calling All Young Artists!

Oakham's Christmas Light Switch-On Competition: Calling All Young Artists!

Get out your crayons, paints, and glitter! Oakham Town Council is delighted to announce a Christmas Drawing Competition for all local students in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (generally ages 5–11). It's a fantastic chance for young artists to show off their creative flair and perhaps even earn the most coveted prize of the festive season!

The Star Prize: Switching on Oakham's Christmas Lights!

The lucky winner will receive the incredible honour of switching on Oakham’s Christmas lights at the official Christmas Light Switch-On event!

Mark your calendars: the spectacular event takes place on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, at 4:30 PM. Imagine the excitement of being the person to light up the town for the holidays—it's a memory that will last a lifetime!

How to Enter

Children are encouraged to create their best festive masterpiece. This could be anything from a snowy scene to Santa, reindeer, or a beautifully decorated Christmas tree!

There are two easy ways to submit your entry:

Email: Send a scan or high-quality photo of your drawing to: swadsworth@oakhamtowncouncil.gov.uk

Drop-Off: Hand in your drawing in person at Kids and More, 9 Crown Walk, Oakham.

Don't Miss the Deadline!

All entries must be submitted by the deadline: Friday, 7th November 2025. Be sure to get your drawings in early so they can be considered for the big prize!

Important Entry Requirements

To ensure all entries are eligible, please make sure your drawing includes the following vital information:

The child’s name and age must be clearly written on the reverse of the drawing itself.

The contact details of a responsible adult must be included with the submission (this is so we can notify the winner!).

Please note: The responsible adult must accompany the child to the Christmas lights switch-on event on November 23rd.

The Council's team can't wait to see all the wonderful festive creations.

This is a chance to be a part of a much-loved community tradition.

Good luck to everyone taking part! Start drawing today for your chance to bring the magic of Christmas to Oakham.
