Residents of Oakham gathered at the town’s war memorial in All Saints Churchyard this morning to observe a poignant two-minute silence at 11:00 am, paying tribute to the fallen members of the armed forces.
The morning act of remembrance saw local community members come together alongside civic leaders, including the Mayor of Oakham, Cllr Martin Brookes, the Deputy Mayor Dave Romney and Cllr Ben Callaghan. During the solemn gathering, Mrs Beech laid a wreath at the base of the memorial.
The town's commemorations will continue throughout the afternoon with a full Remembrance Sunday program:
Remembrance Parade: A formal parade will march through the center of Oakham both before and after the afternoon events.
County Service: The Remembrance Service will begin at 2:30 pm inside All Saints Church.
Wreath Laying: Following the church service, wreath laying takes place at the war memorial to honour those who served and lost their lives.
