Oakham Town Council Bids Farewell to Cllr Sylvia Pryer Due to Health Issues

Oakham Town Council has announced with regret the resignation of Councillor Sylvia Pryer, who has stepped down from her role due to ongoing health challenges. The news was confirmed today by Oakham Mayor, Cllr Ainsley who expressed the council's sadness at Cllr Pryer's departure.

Cllr Pryer was co-opted onto the council in June 2023 and, despite facing illness during her tenure, remained a dedicated member of the local authority. Mr. Ainsley stated, "It is with sadness that I announce Sylvia Pryer's decision to step down from her role as an Oakham Town councillor due to health challenges."

Despite the necessity of her resignation, Cllr Pryer remains optimistic about her future health and has expressed hope of potentially returning to her civic duties when her health allows. This positive outlook in the face of adversity has been noted and appreciated by her fellow councillors and the Town Clerk.

Mr. Ainsley further conveyed the collective sentiment of the council, saying, "Despite her challenges, Sylvia remains hopeful and optimistic about resuming her duties in the future. All Oakham Town councillors have expressed their sadness and wish Sylvia all the best for the future."

The resignation of Cllr Pryer will necessitate the Town Council considering the process for filling the now vacant seat. Details regarding this process are expected to be announced in due course.

In the meantime, the thoughts and well wishes of the Oakham Town Council and the wider community are undoubtedly with ylvia Pryer as she focuses on her health and recovery.
