Drug dealers attempting to operate in Melton and Rutland had a weekend to forget after proactive policing by local Neighbourhood Officers led to multiple arrests, cash seizures, and vehicle impoundments across both towns.
Following feedback from residents highlighting drug activity as a top community priority, officers targeting the Night-Time Economy delivered a swift response over the weekend, netting two key arrests in separate incidents.
On Friday Night a Oakham Vehicle Search Yielded Cash and Class A Drugs
The weekend's action began on Friday evening when vigilant officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in Oakham. After the driver provided what police described as a "fishy story," officers conducted a thorough search of both the individual and the car.
The search uncovered a quantity of cash alongside suspected Class A drugs. The driver was immediately taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized and towed away by recovery agents.
On Saturday night Footchase in Melton Ends in Garden Hideout
The momentum carried over into Saturday night in Melton, where officers attending a reported disturbance spotted a suspect attempting to flee through a block of flats.
Following a quick footchase, the fleeing male attempted to conceal himself in a residential garden. Officers swiftly located the individual, and a stop-search led to his arrest on suspicion of Possession with Intent to Supply.
"Hostile Environment for Drug Offences"
Addressing the community, PC 971 Gill, Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer for Oakham and Barleythorpe, reassured residents that officers are working tirelessly to keep local streets safe,
"We are working tirelessly across our patch to tackle drug supply and make the area as hostile as possible for people planning to commit drugs offences in our towns and villages. Drugs remain a beat priority... and this type of proactive policing will continue day and night."
Police have urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activity or drug-related concerns to help shape local beat priorities and assist ongoing investigations.
