Oakham Gears Up for VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebrations
The town of Oakham is preparing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a few events on Thursday, May 8th, 2025.
At 6:30 pm, the sound of Church Bells Ringing Out will resonate through the town. This traditional act of celebration and remembrance will provide a poignant backdrop to the day's commemorations.
As evening approaches, at 8:30 pm, the Rutland Morris Dancers will perform. This vibrant display of English folk tradition will offer a moment of cultural celebration and community spirit.
The day will culminate at 9:30 pm with the Beacon Lighting.
This symbolic act, will be held across the United Kingdom and will serve as a powerful visual tribute to the end of the war in Europe and a beacon of peace.
