A Taste of History on Wheels: The Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run Rolls into Uppingham
Get ready for a charming step back in time this Sunday, April 27th, as Uppingham Market Place plays host to the delightful Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run. From 9:00 am to 11:00 am, up to 250 stunning classic vehicles will gather, offering a unique spectacle for enthusiasts and the local community alike.
Sponsored by Adams & Sons, this popular event sees a fascinating array of vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles converge in the heart of Uppingham. It’s a fantastic opportunity to wander through the Market Place and High Street, admiring these beautifully maintained machines before they embark on their historical journey.
The Stilton Cheese Classic Vehicle Run isn't just a display of gleaming chrome and roaring engines; it's a nostalgic nod to a bygone era of transport. The route of the run retraces the old country lanes used to deliver the renowned Stilton cheese from its original production site at Quenby Hall in Hungarton, Leicestershire, to the Bell Inn at Stilton in Cambridgeshire – the very place that lent its name to the celebrated cheese.
Imagine the days when horse-drawn carriages undertook the 39-mile journey, stopping at various villages and towns along the way to deliver their precious cargo. This route stands as a testament to a time before the dominance of modern vehicles, marking one of the longest commercial carriage rides of its era.
Due to the event's immense popularity and to ensure a smooth flow, participation in the run is limited to 250 pre-booked vehicles. However, the public is warmly invited to come and browse these magnificent vehicles in Uppingham Market Place and along the High Street before they set off on their scenic route south and across to Oundle, eventually making their way to Stilton.
This Sunday morning promises a delightful blend of history, heritage, and horsepower in the picturesque setting of Uppingham. It's a perfect family outing and a chance to witness a unique event that celebrates both classic vehicles and a slice of local history. Don't miss the opportunity to witness this rolling tribute to the past!
