Celebrate the Bard in Song: Harborough Singers Present "Shakespeare in Song"
Mark your calendars, Shakespeare fans! The Harborough Singers are raising a musical toast to the Bard himself on Saturday, November 2nd. This special concert, titled "Shakespeare in Song," promises an evening filled with glorious music inspired by the timeless works of William Shakespeare.
The program boasts a diverse selection of pieces, featuring well-known Shakespeare Song sets by composers like Emma Lou Diemer, Charles Paterson, and Vaughan Williams. Additionally, the concert will showcase two works by modern composers who have set Shakespeare's words to music, offering a fresh perspective on the Bard's genius.
For a touch of familiar magic, the choir will be joined by a talented ensemble for beloved tunes from Leonard Bernstein's iconic "West Side Story," a modern reimagining of "Romeo and Juliet." David Ayre on double bass, Graham Instrall on drums, and Andrew King on piano will bring these classic melodies to life.
The evening concludes on a jazzy note with George Shearing's "Seven Songs & Sonnets," ensuring a delightful and unexpected twist to the Shakespearean celebration.
The concert will be held at St Andrew's Church, Lyddington, starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are priced at £15 for adults and only £5 for under-18s in full-time education. Secure your spot by visiting the Harborough Singers website https://www.harboroughsingers.com/whats-on or calling 07761 729558.
