Rutland County Council Questioned about Building Control Partnership

At the Rutland County Council meeting held on September 26, 2024, a question was raised regarding the operation of the shared Building Control service provided by Blaby District Council. Gillian Aitken inquired about the due diligence measures in place to ensure compliance with health and safety and building regulations.

In response, Councillor Browne explained that Rutland County Council joined the Leicestershire building control partnership in April 2022, joining five other councils already involved. The partnership operates under a formal agreement, with regular joint meetings and audits conducted by both internal and external audit teams.

Aitken's supplementary question focused on potential liability in cases of gross misconduct or negligence within the building control department. The council's legal officer intervened, stating that this question could not be answered at the meeting and would require further investigation.
