Leicestershire Police, Rutland Police Update: A Busy Weekend for Local Officers

Leicestershire Police, Rutland Police Update: A Busy Weekend for Local Officers

It has been a high-tempo few shifts for the Rutland policing team, with officers across the district tackling everything from road safety and anti-social behavior (ASB) to sensitive safeguarding concerns and arrests.

As the weekend draws to a close, PCSO Lauren and the team of PC 49 and PC 4104 have provided a breakdown of the incidents that kept them on the move.

PCSO Lauren’s recent shifts focused heavily on community intervention and protecting the vulnerable. Working alongside Community Safety teams, the police visited individuals involved in anti-social behavior to issue formal advice.

In Oakham, a specific property was secured after unauthorised individuals were found using a key they shouldn't have had, causing a disturbance to neighbours. The group was safely removed, and the address was re-secured.

PCSO Lauren also highlighted the critical human element of the job, noting, she has completed essential paperwork for a person at risk of self-harm. Responded to a report of a missing child, who was thankfully located safe and well and provided direct updates to various victims of crime regarding their ongoing investigations.

While some officers focused on community outreach, others were busy on Rutland's main arterial roads. Saturday's late shift, manned by PC 49 and PC 4104, began with a vehicle stop on the A6003 near Oakham. The encounter resulted in the immediate seizure of a vehicle after the driver was found to have, no licence, no insurance, no tax and no MOT.

Saturday's evening took a more serious turn following a report of a domestic assault. Officers tracked a suspect’s vehicle to an Oakham pub and waited for the individual to emerge.

After a short pursuit, the man was stopped and arrested. In addition to the assault allegations, the driver failed a roadside breath test with a staggering evidential reading of 110 (the legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100ml of breath). The suspect was taken to a Leicester custody suite to sober up before being charged.

As PCSO Lauren heads off for a well-deserved period of rest, the community remains in the hands of PC Melissa and PC McKinnon.

"If you see them out and about over the next couple of days, please do give them a wave and say hello," Lauren added. "Take care, stay safe, and try to stay dry out there."
