A Magical Return: Root-and-Branch-Out's Lantern Walk Set for November
Root-and-Branch-Out, the Rutland-based community interest organisation, has announced the return of its much-loved Magical Lantern Walk for 2025. The community celebration is set to light up the streets of Oakham on Saturday, November 8th.
Held almost every year since 2018 (with the exception of 2020), this annual event draws inspiration from traditional Saint Martin's Day celebrations. Historically, this day sees children walk in a lantern-lit procession from a church to the town square. Root-and-Branch-Out’s walk follows this tradition, hoping to bring the community together to celebrate the changing of the season.
The procession will begin its magical journey at All Saints Church and conclude in the town square, providing a beautiful spectacle of light and community spirit.
Make Your Own Magic: Lantern Workshop Announced
To ensure the procession is as dazzling as possible, Root-and-Branch-Out is hosting a lantern making workshop ahead of the main event.
Locals can craft their own luminous creations at Oakham Castle on Saturday, November 1st, running from 11 am to 1 pm. This year's theme encourages creativity and cooperation, focusing on large lanterns that require two or more people to carry them high into the air.
This popular local event is a fantastic opportunity for a beautiful display of community and promises to be a magical, memory-making experience for Rutland's children.
