Oakham Level Crossing and Railway Station Weekend Closures
Oakham Level Crossing and Railway Station are closed this weekend (May 10-11, 2025) and the following week (May 17-18, 2025) due to major engineering works.
Access through the station and across the level crossing would be entirely restricted during these periods. Pedestrians needing to cross the railway line are only able to do so via the old footbridge.
The project aims to provide smoother journeys for passengers and reduce the need for future maintenance disruptions. During the closures, there will be no train services stopping at Oakham station, and the level crossing will be shut to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Train operators, including East Midlands Railway (EMR) and CrossCountry, have announced service alterations. 1 Rail replacement bus services are in operation between Leicester and Peterborough, calling at Melton Mowbray, Oakham, and Stamford, to ensure passengers can still complete their journeys. 2 Some early morning EMR services to Norwich are also affected, with diversions and bus replacements in place for the impacted sections. 1
Passengers intending to travel during these weekends are strongly advised to check with National Rail Enquiries or their respective train operating companies for the latest journey information and to allow extra time for travel.
