Tigers Roar Past Scarlets in Final Pre-Season Test
Leicester Tigers concluded their pre-season campaign with a resounding 31-7 victory over the Scarlets at Mattioli Woods Welford Road. The match, a stark contrast to the competitive fervour of the upcoming season, served as a final warm-up for the Tigers ahead of their 2024/25 campaign.
The Tigers dominated the proceedings from the outset, with Hanro Liebenberg making his mark with a brace of tries. The South African back-row demonstrated impressive power and determination to force his way over the line on both occasions, giving Leicester a comfortable lead.
While the Scarlets managed to respond with a try of their own, it was the Tigers who continued to control the tempo of the game. Charlie Clare, a seasoned campaigner, added another try to Leicester's tally, capitalizing on a quick tap penalty to catch the Scarlets off guard.
The second half of the match saw a more subdued pace as the Tigers maintained their defensive dominance. Josh Bassett, coming off the bench, extended Leicester's lead with a try of his own, while Izaia Perese's powerful run and Tom Whiteley's accurate cross-kick set the stage for Will Wand's debut try in Tigers colours.
Despite the Scarlets' efforts, the Tigers' superior defence and clinical finishing proved too much to handle. The match served as a positive sign for Leicester fans as they eagerly anticipate the start of the new season.
