Former Oakham Deputy Mayor Jean Denyer MBE Honoured by High Sheriff of Rutland
Former Deputy Mayor of Oakham, Jean Denyer MBE, has been presented with an award by the High Sheriff of Rutland in recognition of her outstanding service to the community.
The honour highlights Denyer's long-standing dedication to public service across Rutland, extending from her civic duties to her extensive charitable endeavors.
Jeans lifelong commitment to supporting vulnerable residents gained national recognition when she was awarded an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours list. The Member of the Order of the British Empire medal was bestowed upon her specifically for her dedicated services to homeless people and her wide-ranging work within the local community.
Beyond her charitable work, Jean played a prominent role in local governance:
Civic Roles: She served as Deputy Mayor of Oakham and spent years on the council representing local residents and supporting town initiatives.
Council Resignation: In April 2022, Jean stepped down from her role as Deputy Mayor, marking her second resignation from Oakham Town Council after a year of active civic involvement after serving less than a month on another parish council.
The High Sheriff’s award serves as a formal token of appreciation from the county, acknowledging Jean’s enduring positive impact on the lives of local residents and her selfless work with those experiencing homelessness across Rutland.
