A Joint letter sent to Ed Miliband from Alicia Kearns Rutland and Stamford MP and Rahima Mahmut, About Uyghur Slave Labour Links Behind Mallard Pass Project

They have sent a letter to Ed Miliband, about the allegations of Uyghur slave labour links. The letter highlights the potential involvement of forced labour practices in the supply chain of Mallard Pass Project.

The Mallard Pass Solar Plant, a significant renewable energy development in the region, has been a subject of local interest and debate. However, the allegations have cast a shadow over the project's reputation. The letter specifically points to the developer's potential connections to companies that have been implicated in the exploitation of Uyghur workers in China.

The allegations of Uyghur slave labour have gained international attention, with many countries and organisations condemning the practice.

Alicia Kearns, Member of Parliament for Rutland and Stamford, said:

"Together with Stop Uyghur Genocide I have sent a joint statement to Ed Miliband setting out in detail the Mallard Pass Developer Canadian Solar’s links to Uyghur forced labour in Xinjiang and requesting that he cancel approval for Mallard Pass.

"We have also reiterated the call I made earlier in the year for measures to clean up the UK solar market of forced labour once and for all.

"Whilst the Secretary of State has opted not to listen to our objections to Mallard Pass, he may struggle to ignore the voices of those who have themselves suffered directly in the Uyghur genocide and their advocate – the same genocide that Canadian Solar is documented to have benefited from.

"I will continue to do everything I can do stand up for us, and I’m very grateful to you all for your support."
