Village Treasure Missing The Olive Branch Clipsham Issues Urgent Appeal for Stolen Cricket Cup

Village Treasure Missing The Olive Branch Clipsham Issues Urgent Appeal for Stolen Cricket Cup

The community of Clipsham is in distress following the disappearance of a priceless village heirloom: The Sir David Davenport Handley Cup. The Olive Branch pub, a central hub in the village, has issued an urgent public appeal across its social media channels after realizing the historical trophy was missing from its usual spot.

The cup, described as having immense sentimental value, was last sighted on the evening of Thursday, November 25th, resting in its rightful place on the dedicated "village table" within the pub.

The Sir David Davenport Handley Cup is far more than just a trophy; it represents a piece of Clipsham's unique local history.

The cup was generously donated by the late Sir David Davenport Handley, who was Clipsham's last Lord of the Manor. It was intended to be the winning prize for a local cricket rivalry: the Stretton v Clipsham match.

"The match was only played once and [the cup] has remained pride of place on the village table ever since," The Olive Branch stated in its appeal.

This single outing on the cricket pitch cemented the cup's place as a lasting symbol of the village's heritage, making its loss deeply felt by the residents.

The Olive Branch's appeal highlights the community's emotional attachment to the cup, emphasising that its value is purely sentimental and historical.

The village is asking anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist in the search.

Details of the Missing Item:

  • Item: The Sir David Davenport Handley Cup

  • Last Seen: Evening of Thursday, November 25th

  • Location: Village table at The Olive Branch, Clipsham

  • Significance: Donated by the last Lord of the Manor for the Stretton v Clipsham cricket match.

The pub and the community are pleading for its safe return. Any help to locate and return the cup would be "greatly received."
