Community Collaboration The Front Line Against Rutland Rural Crime Event, Unveiling Next-Generation Rural Response Vehicles.
Rural crime often presents unique challenges due to geographic isolation and vast open areas. A core takeaway from the event was the vital role played by local communities in keeping rural areas safe.
Much of the Rural Policing Team's success relies on hard-working residents acting as the "eyes and ears" on the ground sharing information and supplying crucial intelligence to help fill in operational gaps.
"As part of the Prevention Directorate within Leicestershire Police, we are committed to preventing crime before it occurs. Events like this allow us to offer practical advice, guidance, and reassurance directly to those who live and work in our rural areas while collaborating with partner agencies who share our vision."
In addition to networking with industry security partners, the day provided a showcase for the team's newest assets: two state-of-the-art police vehicles funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy (Section 106 money).
These high-capability vehicles are specifically tailored for countryside operations and will be based across Rutland, Melton, and Charnwood. They come equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Cameras, providing instant intelligence on suspect vehicles entering rural zones.
Advanced Tracking Capabilities, enabling officers to locate and recover stolen agricultural machinery and high-value equipment.
Specialist Operational Gear, tailored specifically for tackling wildlife crime, farm thefts, and rural trespass.
By delivering real-time information directly to officers in the field, these new additions significantly boost the force's capability to react swiftly and deal effectively with criminality across the region.
The success of the Rutland Showground security day underscores the power of proactive prevention and strong partner relationships. Through a combination of cutting-edge technology, enhanced vehicle capabilities, and active community engagement, the Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team continues to build a resilient defense against rural crime.
If you live or work in a rural area, you can support local policing efforts by reporting suspicious activity, securing farm machinery, and keeping your property security up to date.
In an emergency or crime in progress: Always call 999.
To report non-urgent information or intelligence: Call 101 or report online via the Leicestershire Police website.
